Damage to the Amazon jungle to rise sharply

The level of destruction of the Amazon rain forest in Brazil increased in the last two years.
Brazilian government data shows deforestation increased by 29% in the 12 months to the end of July 2013.

Satellite data shows nearly 6,000 km2 of forest were destroyed in the period.

The largest increase in deforestation terjaid in the state of Para and Mato Grosso, which is mostly caused by expansion of the agricultural sector in Brazil.

More than 1,000 km2 of forest have been destroyed in each state.

Last year, Brazilian authorities said the increase in deforestation reached 28%.

The increase in forest damage was a setback, after deforestation in the country has decreased for several years.

The rate of deforestation that occurred the last two years this is the worst since the government began tracking deforestation Brazil in 2004, when it was 30,000 km2 of forests switching function.

In addition to the expansion of agriculture, deforestation is also caused by an increase in illegal logging and the use of public land for infrastructure projects in the Amazon such as roads and dams.
